Intent

At Exhall Junior School, our Geography curriculum inspires curiosity about the world and a deep appreciation of the places, people and processes that shape it. We want pupils to become thoughtful geographers, aware of how human and physical environments connect and change over time.

Through Geography, our pupils learn to see themselves as part of a wider world. They explore how people live, how landscapes are formed, and how choices made locally can have global impact. Above all, they develop a sense of wonder and responsibility for the planet we share.

Implementation

Learning in Geography is hands-on and purposeful. Pupils use maps, atlases, digital tools and fieldwork to explore real places and geographical questions. Lessons are built around enquiry and investigation, asking questions, analysing data, and drawing conclusions.

We make the most of our local area for fieldwork, helping pupils understand geography in context before broadening their horizons to national and global studies. Links to subjects like Science, History and Computing allow pupils to apply and extend their learning in creative ways.

Impact

By the time pupils leave Exhall Junior, they have a strong sense of place and an informed awareness of the world around them. They can talk confidently about key geographical concepts, use accurate vocabulary, and think critically about environmental and social issues. Most importantly, they leave us as curious, responsible citizens who care about the planet and their role in its future.
