Intent

At Exhall Junior, we aim to bring the past to life. Our History curriculum gives pupils a clear sense of how people and events have shaped the world, locally, nationally and globally. We want every child to think like a historian: to ask questions, weigh evidence, and understand that history is made up of many voices and perspectives.

By studying significant people, cultures and periods, pupils learn about the complexity of human experience and the values that have shaped society. Through this, they gain insight into who they are and the part they play in shaping the future.

Implementation

We teach History through engaging, well-sequenced units that build knowledge over time. Lessons combine storytelling, investigation and analysis, supported by artefacts, visits, and immersive experiences that help pupils see history in action.

Children explore diverse viewpoints, develop key vocabulary, and connect their historical learning with other subjects such as English, Geography and Art. They are encouraged to question sources, form opinions, and explain how the past influences life today

Impact

By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils at Exhall Junior have a secure understanding of chronology, key historical themes and significant individuals. They can explain how and why things happened, make connections across time, and express their own interpretations with confidence. They leave us as thoughtful, questioning learners — ready to explore the world with curiosity and understanding.
