Intent

At Exhall Junior, RE inspires pupils to explore big questions about meaning, purpose, and truth. We want them to develop self-knowledge, moral courage, and empathy, understanding both their own worldview and those of others. Pupils learn to think deeply, reflect thoughtfully, and engage respectfully with diverse beliefs.

Implementation

RE is taught through Theology, Philosophy, and the Human and Social Sciences, with History included in some units. Lessons are organised around seven core concepts, Belonging and Believing, Wisdom and Guidance, Personal Responsibility, Living Well, Authority and Power, Changes, and Grand Narratives, revisited at increasing depth through stories, case studies, and enquiry.

From EYFS to upper Key Stage 2, pupils explore familiar rituals and festivals, study complex questions, and investigate how beliefs are expressed in action as well as thought. Local connections, such as the Anglican church and Coventry Cathedral, enrich learning and bring worldviews to life.

Impact

By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils confidently discuss their own and others’ beliefs, show curiosity and respect, and apply knowledge from multiple disciplines. They leave Exhall as thoughtful, reflective individuals, ready to engage with a diverse world with understanding and integrity.
