Our Young Carers enjoyed a wonderful visit to Oak Farm this half-term, spending the day exploring life in the countryside and learning about farming!
The children had the chance to see cows and their calves up close and discover how the farm produces its own meat. They also met a variety of sheep, and as it is lambing season, they were lucky enough to witness a lamb being born, as well as see many young lambs with their mothers – an unforgettable experience for everyone involved! A visit to the vegetable garden gave the children insight into how the farm grows its own produce. The farmer explained how they are able to produce most of their own food, rarely needing to visit a supermarket! After enjoying lunch together in the farmhouse kitchen, the children had some time to relax and explore the farm’s beautiful garden.
In the afternoon, the group took part in an exciting woodland activity led by Amrita from The Country Trust. Equipped with specialist jars and magnifying glasses, the children searched for insects in their natural habitat. They also had the option to take part in a scavenger hunt, adding to the day’s fun and adventure.
It was a fun-filled day in the glorious countryside, and a fantastic time was had by all!
